Arcade Fire's 'The Suburbs' Tops The US Charts

Its official! Arcade Fire’s have achieved the biggest indie release of the year so far with their recently released third studio album, ‘The Suburbs’, topping the stateside charts.
Stereoboard.com have been closely following the progress of the Arcade Fire’s new album, reporting earlier this week that Arcade Fire had conquered the UK Album chart on Sunday August 8th. Also entering the US Billboard countdown at Number One on its first week of release, ‘The Suburbs’ can now be officially crowned a transatlantic success and therefore the biggest indie release of 2010.
Confirming the news to fans, record label Merge announced the news saying, “Let the record reflect that Merge Records is the NUMBER ONE LABEL IN THE USA! Here’s to Arcade Fire and Merge: #1 – 156k copies sold.”
Arcade Fire will also be pleased to hear that their Number One has beaten Vampire Weekend’s 125,000 sales of their latest album ‘Contra’, meaning that ‘The Suburbs’ now holds the title for the biggest first week sales of an indie-rock group on the US Billboard chart this year to date.
Not a bad return from a band who will wrap up an exceptional year with a recently confirmed UK tour. Hitting some of the biggest arena venues in the country this December, it will see Arcade Fire playing the biggest UK shows of their career so far.
Tickets go on sale from 9am on Friday August 13th.
