John Lennon Killer Has Parole Hearing Postponed

John Lennon murderer Mark Chapman has had his parole hearing postponed until September.

Stereoboard recently reported the news that killer Chapman, now 55, was once again applying for parole. Having been sentenced to spend between 20 years to life imprisonment following his conviction of the lethal shooting of John Lennon, Mark Chapman was also given the option to apply for parole after serving 20 years of his sentence.

Having now spent 30 years behind bars, Mark Chapman started his attempts at parole in 2000. Applying once every two years, the killer has had his previous five hearings dismissed and – despite objections from John Lennon’s widow Yoko Ono - has now started proceedings for his sixth application.

It has been reported that Chapman’s hearing will now take place in September, Associated Press claiming that the case has been pushed back to the autumn with Mark Chapman possibly being able to walk free having kept a spotless prison record for over fifteen years.

Commenting on the case, the parole board said, “Mr Chapman was informed that his parole interview has been postponed one month. The Division of Parole is awaiting the receipt of additional information so that the record is complete for Mr Chapman’s upcoming parole interview.”

Widow Yoko Ono has always remained opposed to the release of Mark Chapman, arguing at the killer’s previous hearing that his release would make an impact on the safety of her friends and family.
