Former Placebo drummer Steve Hewitt reveals new band

Steve Hewitt, the former drummer of alternative rock group Placebo, is set to release a new album with his latest band Love Amongst Ruin on 13th September this year. The self-titled album, which will be their debut, is also the first offering from Hewitt since the departure from his previous band in 2007 after eleven years.

Hewitt first joined Placebo in 1996, following the release of their debut album, to replace original drummer Robert Schultzberg. He went on to record four albums with the band, from ‘Without You I’m Nothing’ in 1998 to ‘Meds’ in 2006.

However, in a deviation from his role in Placebo, Hewitt is not retuning to his previous position at the drum kit and will instead be taking up guitar and lead vocals for Love Amongst Ruin.

The band first got together at Moles Studio in Bath during the summer of 2008 for two four-week recording sessions. Hewitt remembers those early sessions fondly: “I really enjoyed it. I had to make sure it was something I could live with afterwards. I was trying to be true to myself.”

Joining Steve Hewitt in Love Amongst Ruin are: Donald Ross Skinner (guitar), Steve Hove (lead guitar), Laurie Ross (cello, keys and percussion), Teresa Morini (bass) and Keith York (drums). “I’ve hand-picked some really cool, talented people for the band,” Hewitt says. “There’s a great vibe. I’m enjoying being in a band and enjoying music again. It feels really fresh and full of energy.”

Love Amongst Ruin have announced a full UK tour to follow the release of the album:
