Happy Monday's Star Bez Found Guilty Of Assault

The dancing legend of the Happy Mondays, Bez (pictured left), has been found guilty of assault and faces his sentence at the end of the month.
Bez, real name Mark Berry, made his name “playing vibes” with Manchester band the Happy Mondays. Famously crediting him as ‘Bez – Bez’ on the band’s album sleeves, the star’s job was to simply dance on stage while the Mondays played out their music.
Going on to work with Black Grape following the collapse of The Happy Mondays and becoming more and more involved in the growing 90’s dance scene, Bez had more than his fair share of run-ins with the law. Even though his father was a policeman, the dancing legend, a prodigious drug user too, has somehow so far avoided doing time in jail.
However that now looks set to change for Bez, who has recently been accused of assault by his former girlfriend after a row erupted in their Manchester home. The ructions began following a gig the night before, with Bez apparently convinced that his payment had been stolen from him. Accusing his former girlfriend, Monica Ward, of stealing money, a violent row broke out where Bez apparently flipped, grabbed the woman with both hands and proceeded to strangle her.
Giving her account of what happened to Manchester Magistrates, Ward claimed that Bez was “looking insane” and threatened to kill her after she phoned the police. Despite Bez arguing that he was acting in self-defence, the star was found guilty and will be sentenced at the end of the month on August 25th.
The Happy Mondays have refused to comment on the incident.
