It has been reported that Coldplay have made one of the biggest deals in music history, signing with industry giants Universal.
UK newspaper The Sun has reported that although the deal has been signed, there has been no confirmation on the length of the contract as well as how much money has been put on the table. However, strong rumours suggest that the deal is set to be worth millions to each of the four members of Coldplay.
Speaking to the newspaper about the mammoth contract, Paul Connolly, who is president of Universal, had this to say: "They've sold more than 50 million albums worldwide and their huge success is entirely deserved. We're obviously very proud."
With Chris Martin and Co originally signing to fellow industry moguls BMG in 1999, the label went on to release the band’s first album ‘Parachutes’. With BMG later being bought-out by Universal, Universal became the number one label within the industry.
Despite the huge deal, it seems that money isn’t a number one priority in Coldplay frontman Chris Martin’s life. The Sun also reported that the singer recently lost a lot of money in a high-stake table tennis game, losing £1,000 in one match!
Speaking to The Sun, a source said: "Chris challenged a roadie to a big table-tennis game and lost out. But he went straight to the kitty and handed over the wedge. He's very generous like that."
