Aerosmith Bassist Tom Hamilton: 'Steven Tyler Is Doing American Idol'

Following-up on the rumors that Aerosmith frontman Steven Tyler was heading for the judging panel on the next series of American Idol, I’m sad to report that it now looks set to definitely happen.

Speaking to the stateside New Jersey Star-Ledger, Aerosmith bassist Tom Hamilton confirmed that his charismatic singer will be joining the American Idol team.

“Steven is doing American Idol. The ink is dry on that. So, we’ll have to work around his schedule for a new record. I hope it doesn’t hurt the new momentum we’ve built up on this tour, because that’s been so important for us as a band. But I wouldn’t want to be the one standing in the way of this for him.”

Continuing, Hamilton added, “Steven is someone who absolutely lives to be in front of an audience and the people closest to him know how witty and entertaining he can be. I don’t know if American Idol will be rock’n'roll enough for him, but it is an opportunity for millions of people to see another side of Steven Tyler.”

Meanwhile, it appears the tensions between Aerosmith toxic twins Steven Tyler and Joe Perry are building with the pair recently involved in some onstage bickering. Stereoboard recently reported that Perry was furious with his bandmate Tyler for not informing him of his plans to join the American reality TV show. It now appears that the two are at war onstage.

Whilst playing a Canadian gig on Tuesday August 17th, during the performance of classic anthem Love In An Elevator, Tyler lightly knocked Perry, who then, at the end of his guitar solo knocked the singer back only to send him clean off the catwalk and into the crowd! The war continued at another recent gig with Tyler getting his own back on the guitarist by accidentally bashing Perry over the head with a mic stand. In response to the incident Perry threw his guitar into the amp stack and stumbled off stage. Whether these mishaps were accidental or not, you can’t help but wonder if Tyler’s TV move is stirring up a divide between the iconic duo.

American Idol is set to return to TV screens in January 2011.
