The Who To Return In 2011

Legendary rock band The Who will return next year!

During a Q&A session on the band's official website, iconic frontman Roger Daltrey revealed to fans that Pete Townshend was writing new material again, possible for a new rock opera titled 'Floss' which the guitarist began writing back in 2009.

Daltrey also spoke about his hopes to be on tour for most of the year, revisiting The Who classic albums such as 'Quadrophenia' and 'Tommy'.

“We’re in the planning stages for next year…we are planning on doing something," Daltrey said. "I can’t really talk about specifics yet, but it will be based around a past work. I would like to be on the road playing as many different kind of shows as we could: maybe doing Quadrophenia one night, do greatest hits the next night…this is what I would like to do. And Tommy…if I could still sing Tommy. That, to me, would be really good fun. And don’t keep going out with the same show every night - the audience would have to take a chance on what show they actually got.”

In addition to new material from The Who, Roger Daltrey also revealed that he was looking to launch his 'Blues' album next year. Speaking about teaming up with a high profile guitarist to record an album of blues songs, Daltrey said.

“I’ve always wanted to do something with Jimmy (Page). I mean, what the hell is he doing? It’s a waste of talent – he’s a genius. I love Keith but I think the Stones will be back together very soon. Eric (Clapton) is doing this laid-back blues stuff but if we could find the songs it would be interesting. I think I could drive him on – I think he needs a bit of driving. That blues stuff is right in the pocket but you need dynamic. Never forget the dynamic. I’ve talked to a guitarist I won’t name to do a blues album, just for fun. Just choose some songs from the period we used to like, get in there, do a live album and bung it out on the internet. Blues, but not just twelve-bar boring.”

With this new announcement from The Who, 2011 looks to be a massive year for rock tours. The Cult, Europe and Eric Clapton have already confirmed 2011 tour dates and rumors are still rife that the Rolling Stones are to return to the live stage for a 50th Anniversary tour. In addition, both American rock giants Van Halen and Whitesnake are rumored to be reforming for a new album and tour.
