Katy Perry Explains Her Breakdown At BBC Radio 1 Teen Awards

Katy Perry has explained the reasons behind her tearful episode at BBC the Radio 1 Teen Awards this weekend.

The singer, who performed at the awards alongside the likes of The Wanted and Taylor Swift, was brought to tears as she performed her latest single ‘Firework’ in front of the young crowd.

Speaking to a British newspaper, Perry said that it was the magnitude of the event which had got to her. The Radio One Teen Awards is a distinct awards ceremony, aimed at celebrating young talent and innovation across various creative and entrepreneurial fields.

“I was emotional before I sang ‘Firework.’ I got chills and butterflies – it’s a huge adrenaline rush. All the hairs stick up on my body and sometimes I don’t even have to sing because the crowds sing it louder.” She said.

“I still feel nervous performing to crowds. It’s not that I don’t feel ready but I worry that they’ll rush the stage as they’re all screaming my name or I feel like a wanna yack!”

It has been a busy week for Perry, who married comedian Russell Brand just last month. As well as performing at the Teen Awards at Hammersmith Apollo, she also unveiled her own perfume line, ‘Purr’ in New York at the weekend. At the launch, Perry expressed her delight at the whole process of developing the fragrance: “I love all the types of scents that I incorporated in it. It has bit gardenia, citrus, jasmine which I love, and then it has sandalwood which makes it a bit ambiguous and different for me.” She said.
