'Glee' Creator Continues Feud With ‘Homophobic’ Kings Of Leon

Thursday, 27 January 2011 Written by James Conlon

In the latest instalment from an ongoing row on Twitter, ‘Glee’ creator Ryan Murphy has accused Kings Of Leon drummer Nathan Followill of homophobia.

The two have been involved in an online war of words for the past few days, in an argument which developed after Kings Of Leon initially refused permission for their songs to be used on the show. As reported by Stereoboard yesterday, the feud had culminated in Followill sending an acid-tongued message to Murphy declaring: "Dear Ryan Murphy, let it go. See a therapist, get a manicure, buy a new bra. Zip your lip and focus on educating seven year-olds how to say fuck."

However, it would appear that the pair aren’t going to leave the spat there. Murphy reacted earlier today in a message to blogger Perez Hilton. He said: "That's [Followill] a homophobe badly in need of some education. I'm all for manicures, don't wear a bra. Would guess most gay dudes don't."

He added: "It's telling that Nathan can reduce a group of people to a mean-spirited cliché, in a time where young gay men are killing themselves all over the country because of hatred like this. That said, I would love to sit down with Nathan or any member of Kings and Leon, and tell them how on Glee we actually love their music, and support their artistry… but cannot condone or even laugh at their clear disdain of gay people."

Drummer Nathan Followill was quick to address the accusations as he tweeted in reply: "I'm sorry for anyone that misconstrued my comments as homophobic or misogynistic. I'm so not that kind of person. I really do apologise."
