Nicki Minaj has topped the US album chart with her debut LP 'Pink Friday'. The singer released ‘Pink Friday’ in 2010, but after 11 weeks in the chart the album has finally jumped to the top position.
The album ascended from Number Three to take the top spot, selling over 45,000 copies last week. The move is a rare occasion in the US album chart, which usually sees artists enter at the Number One spot or fail to achieve the position. Minaj’s latest release took the longest to reach the top of the chart since Ray Charles’s ‘Genius Loves Company’ in 2005, an album which waited 25 weeks before gaining the Number One spot.
The rise has been put down to a number of factors including recent performances on Saturday Night Live and the Jay Leno Show. You can watch Nicki Minaj performing ‘Moment 4 Life’ on the Jay Leno show below.
