Lock Of Justin Bieber’s Hair Selling For $7,000 on Ebay

Friday, 25 February 2011 Written by James Conlon

All hail Justin Bieber. Back in my day you had to do something worthwhile (like, oh I don’t know, raise from the dead?) to be praised as a deity. However, Bieber has bucked the trend with a few catchy pop songs as a lock of his hair is set to sell for $7,000 on Ebay.

The singer appeared on the Ellen DeGeneres show earlier this week with his controversial new look after cutting off his trademark floppy fringe. The singer then handed the talk show host a lock of his hair in a signed Perspex case, saying: "I'm giving pieces of it to different people. We're doing something special. We want you to donate it to whatever charity you want."

The auction began yesterday at $10, and has currently reached a total of $7,000 with proceeds donated to The Gentle Barn charity. However, with the auction not set to finish until March 2nd, it is expected to reach a higher amount before closing.

Bieber is believed to have lost over 80,000 fans on Twitter immediately after posting a picture of himself with the new haircut. Speaking about the decision on Ellen, he said: “I just wanted to, that’s all, not really a big reason: I just woke up and said, ‘I don’t want this anymore’, so I just cut it.”

However, it would appear that the decision wasn’t actually so spur of the moment. In an interview with People magazine, Bieber’s hair stylist confessed that the decision had been almost six months in the making. She said: "Cutting your hair is just part of the evolution and growing process for anyone, and I think he was just ready. We've been talking about it over the last 6 months or so - more or less, it's definitely been in the works for a while.”
