The god’s shine on the UK as an outstanding slice of quality soul makes its global musical premier as Texan soul sensation, Jessica Clemmons, launches her debut album, ‘Permanent’ to UK shores on 2nd May. With a debut single, ‘Relentless’ preceding the album at the end of March and a 12-date live tour supporting, The Soldiers, scheduled throughout March, Jessica Clemmons is set to make an indelible stamp on the UK soul scene.
The voice of Jessica Clemmons is described as “absolute heaven” – deep, rich, luxurious vocals belt out a spectrum of songs from heart-rendering ballads to up-beat sassy dance tracks with equal perfection, this girl has a voice in a million and there’s nothing she can’t handle. Jessica entitled her debut album, ‘Permanent’, as a statement to the world that she’s here to stay, she’s a serious artist in the spark of her career and she’s determined that her work is regarded as timeless. And with a star-studded production team accredited to, ‘Permanent’, its inevitable that the ambitions of this talented Texan are destined for success.
Jessica describes her album as, “A really good mix of different styles that flow together beautifully”, a quality attributed to the fact that it was recorded across a scattering of destinations including, London, Chicago and Denmark. Produced by the legendary John Ravenhall (Paul McCartney, Sting), mixed in Chicago by Larry Sturum (Mariah Carey, Beyonce, Justin Timberlake), with the Chicago Philharmonic on strings and arrangements by Chicago music impresario, Carey Deadman, ‘Permanent’ jigsaws each individual track together to create a stunning album. From the raw and raunchy soul feel of ‘Relentless’ and the catchy Brand New Heavies-esque ‘Permanent’, which features Richard Gibbs (Aretha Franklin) on Hammond, right through to the early 80s pop-synth of, ‘Part Of You’, the fun-guitar pop with a dash of country influence in, ‘Here I Am’, and the smooth mellowness of, ‘Promise You’, this album is an almighty showcase of Jessica Clemmons diverse talent.
Born in Houston Texas, Jessica’s big break came in 2006 when she auditioned for America Idol in front of Paula Abdul and Randy Jackson, but failed to make it through to the live show due to her uncontrollable nerves. Jessica comments, “Paula Abdul and Randy Jackson said that I have what it takes, but to work on the nerves. As I was shaking their hands, Paula said ‘I’m sure we’ll see our name in lights one day’.”
Jessica is already a huge hit in her local town as she sings the National Anthem for her local hockey team, the Houston Aeros. She’s also a legend amongst the gay community and she paid homage to them in 2010 when she did a national tour of al the gay clubs with her single ‘Relentless’ which went to No4 in the UK pop dance chart. Her popularity culminated in her sitting on the judging panel of the gay X Factor called, ‘Queer As Talent’ in the UK.
Now, Jessica unleashes her amazing sound to the general UK public as she proudly releases her most prized musical possession, ‘Permanent’. Audiences will also get a taste of this superb talent as she performs a 25-minute live set to open for The Soldiers throughout their live tour. One thing’s for sure with Jessica Clemmons, she’s permanent and very much here to stay.
