‘Death Cab For Cutie’s Ben Gibbard Debuts New Song ‘Codes And Keys’ – Listen Now

Death Cab For Cutie frontman Ben Gibbard performed two new tracks during San Francisco’s Noise Pop Festival on Sunday. The singer wowed the lucky crowd with a piano-led rendition of the title track from the band’s upcoming LP, ‘Codes And Keys’, as well as performing a new soundtrack number ‘When The Sun Goes Down On Your Street’.

The record will be the band’s seventh studio release, following-on from 2008’s acclaimed ‘Narrow Stairs’. Early interviews have seen the band describe a change of direction with ‘Codes And Keys’, which sees them return to key-based sounds (possibly in the mode of their 2005 album ‘Plans’) rather than the heavily guitar-based tones of ‘Narrow Stairs’. Death Cab are also said to have brought in a full orchestra for two tracks on the new LP.

Gibbard also premiered ‘When The Sun Goes Down On Your Street’, a song written for the soundtrack of ‘Arthur’, a film released in April starring Russell Brand. Listen to the acoustic track here:

‘Codes And Keys’ will be released on May 31st through Atlantic Records.
