Beer Barter Brings Fisherman's Friends Back To Basics

Port Isaac’s Fisherman’s Friends confirmed today that their love of beer has led them to barter their singing for beer in a unique partnership with Cornwall’s favourite beer, Tribute Ale.

Returning to where it all began over two decades ago, entertaining the locals with sea shanties at Port Isaac’s Golden Lion pub in exchange for a few beers, last year’s surprise chart success, Port Isaac’s Fisherman’s Friends have joined forces with St Austell Brewery and will sing and become the faces of Tribute Ale in exchange for the famous Cornish brew.

The year-long campaign includes an exclusive brand new free CD – The Fisherman’s Friends Tribute Bootleg Sessions - recorded by Port Isaac’s Fisherman’s Friend’s at the traditional St Austell Brewery pub, The Golden Lion.

James Staughton, St Austell Brewery’s managing Director and great-great grandson of Cornishman Walter Hicks who founded the Brewery in 1851, said: “We’re incredibly proud of our Cornish heritage and as Cornwall’s biggest brewery are delighted to be working with Port Isaac’s Fisherman’s Friends. We love their singing and they love our beer – it’s a perfect match! Singing has long been a traditional pastime in Cornwall’s pubs and the Fisherman’s Friends Tribute Bootleg Session CD will enable Tribute fans across the UK to enjoy and join in with some of these unique and well loved Cornish pub songs while they enjoy their favourite Cornish ale.”

On 11 April Universal will release the album ‘Port Isaac’s Fisherman’s Friends: Special Edition’ featuring seven new tracks including ‘(What Shall We Do With) The Drunken Sailor’ and ‘When The Boat Comes In’ both featured in the new Young’s adverts.

Tracklisting:
1) Black Eyed Doll
2) I’ve Been Working On The Rail Road
3) Larmorna
4) Little Eyes
5) Trelawny
6) Grandfather’s Clock / Old Time Religion
