The Wanted’s Tom Parker Scuffles With Alastair Campbell At Charity Football Match

The Wanted’s Tom Parker was involved in an unlikely fight with former Labour spin doctor Alastair Campbell yesterday (June 5th). The singer was taking part in a charity football match at Burnley FC’s Turf Moor ground, when a badly-timed tackle ended in a feisty altercation with the political aid.

The Daily Mail quoted a source who watched the match as saying: "When Tom [Parker] brought someone from the other team down, Campbell went up to him pushing and shoving. Tom gave it back to him as he good as got, but was then turned on by one of the other players and there was quite a scuffle with firsts flying and words exchanged."

Although the incident passed and the match was allowed to continue, Parker was eventually stretchered off of the pitch after a tackle with another player. The injury was at first suspected to be a broken leg, but was later revealed to be a twisted knee.

Campbell's team went on to win the charity match, however the incident continued long after the final whistle. The Labour aid commented on his Twitter account, trying to end the hostility by stating that he was sorry to hear about Parker’s injury. However, The Wanted’s legions of (younger) fans were not happy to let the incident rest there, sending Campbell threatening messages and claiming that he should "sleep with one eye open."

Never one to be deterred by a bit of hostility, Campbell later dismissed the incident as a case of “handbags”, claiming that there was nothing serious to the on-pitch scuffle.
