Kaiser Chiefs producer Tony Visconti has denied claims made by a British newspaper that the band rejected lyrics written by David Bowie for their latest album ‘The Future is Medieval’.
The News Of The World claimed yesterday (June 5th) that Visconti contacted the British music legend during recording sessions with the Kaiser Chiefs, asking for a contribution to finish of the words for their track ‘Man On Mars’.
The paper quoted the band’s drummer Nick Hodgson as saying: "Tony texted David asking for his suggestions to finish off a verse [on 'Man On Mars'] and he came up with a couple of lines. I'm such a big Bowie fan I can't believe I'm saying this, but they just weren't right, so I've missed out on a Hodgson/Bowie writing credit. Gutted!"
However. Producer Tony Visconti was keen to set the record straight in an interview with NME today (June 6th). He asserted: "I have never asked David Bowie to write lyrics for the Kaiser Chiefs. I was hired for the production job because of Nick's obsession with Bowie and T. Rex, and I freely shared some of my production secrets with them, but that did not include getting Bowie to write lyrics for them. That is absurd."
Kaiser Chiefs released their latest album ‘The Future Is Medieval’ recently in an innovative fashion, allowing fans to download the album for £7.50 and select their favourite ten tracks (out of the twenty available) on kaiserchiefs.com.
The band have also allowed fans to share their own track selection with other users on the website, earning £1 for every download which their version earns.
