Lady Gaga Earns Most UK Radio Plays In 2010

Lady Gaga has been officially named as the most played musician on UK radio stations last year. The singer earned the coveted title as her single ‘Bad Romance’ was named as the most played track in an airplay chart compiled by music licensing company PPL.

As well as occupying the top spot, Gaga also earned the Number Three position with ‘Alejandro’, another track taken from her critically-accliamed deluxe album ‘The Fame Monster’.

Other artists who made the top ten most played include Alicia Keys, who earned Number Two with ‘Empire State of Mind’, Plan B with ‘She Said’ and Kylie Minogue with ‘All The Lovers’.

The 2009 chart was topped by Lily Allen, however the thought of retiring from music is unlikely to cross Lady Gaga’s mind anytime soon – the eccentric singer currently sits at Number One in both the UK and US album charts.

PPL, the company responsible for collecting airplay royalties for artists, managed to generate £143.5 million last year, a figure which is an 11% increase on their takings in 2009.

Speaking about the figures, PPL CEO Fran Necrkla said: "These results are very encouraging especially against the backdrop of very difficult trading conditions for us as well as many of our licensees and the customers."
