Amy Winehouse Found Dead

Amy Winehouse has been found dead in her London flat by police this afternoon.

News broke this afternoon that the singer who has long battled drug and alcohol addictions had been found by police in her London flat at the age of just 27.

Reports say that London Ambulance Service arrived at the singers home at 3:54pm but were unable to save her life. Police are describing the death as 'unexplained' at the moment.

A police statement read: 'Police were called by London Ambulance Service to an address in Camden Square NW1 shortly before 16.05hrs today, Saturday 23 July, following reports of a woman found deceased. On arrival officers found the body of a 27-year-old female who was pronounced dead at the scene. Enquiries continue into the circumstances of the death. At this early stage it is being treated as unexplained.’

Sky News have reported that Winehouse's father Mitch is probably unaware of her demise as he is currently flying to New York to take part in a jazz festival.

Winehouse rose to global fame in 2006 with the release of 'Back To Black' which, along with her 2003 debut 'Frank' (which was nominated for a Mercury Music Award) received rave reviews and catapulted her into pop stardom. Sadly, it wasn't the singer's talent at singing that kept her in the press as the tabloids consistently were provided with fresh stories as she spiraled further into drug and alcohol problems.

Last month Winehouse pulled out of a European tour after a performance in Serbia which saw her struggle through a 90 minute set.

Amy Winehouse - 14th September 1983 - 23rd July 2011.
