US alternative-country band The Jayhawks have announced initial shows for a UK tour in March 2012.
Set to release their eighth album ‘Mockingbird Time’ on 5th September, this new album comes following their recent reunion after an eight-year hiatus. ‘Mockingbird Time’ is the band’s first album since 2003’s ‘Rainy Day Music’ and the first to feature their original singer and songwriter Mark Olson in 16 years – the last being 1995’s ‘Tomorrow the Green Grass’.
The Jayhawks brought their European tour over to the UK in August and will be returning in Spring 2012 for three UK shows. More dates could be announced in the lead up to the shows.
The Jayhawks were formed in Minneapolis, Minnesota in 1985 and released their eponymous debut album the following year. Their fourth album, 1995’s ‘Tomorrow the Green Grass’, was the first Jayhawks album to chart in the UK. Following Olson’s departure in 1995, Gary Louris took over as the band’s principal songwriter. The Jayhawks have not released an album since 2003’s ‘Rainy Day Music’, although the band have never officially split and have continued to tour together occasionally. In 2008, Olson and Louris reunited to release the album ‘Ready for the Flood’.
