Florence and the Machine Gives Up Drinking While On Tour

Florence Welch, frontwoman of indie rockers Florence and the Machine, has admitted that she’s given up drinking alcohol on tour as she can no longer handle playing performances while hungover from the previous night.

The singer, like any musician, would indulge in a bit of after-show drinking while on tour, especially after she and her band supported the legendary U2 during their US tour. But, it seems Bono and co were too hardcore for her – and she’s now given up drinking on tour altogether. We wonder how long she’ll be able to keep that promise!

“I have stopped drinking on tour. I feel a bit more responsibility for my body and for the fans that come to see us. When we toured with U2 it was such a gruelling schedule and I had shows every day and I can't do that with a hangover.

“This is the best job in the world and I don't want to spoil it, Stopping drinking has made a huge difference to my vocal range.”

She went on to talk about the advice Bono had given her – about performing in high heels.

“Bono was great; he gave me advice on how to perform even when I'm wearing huge high heeled shoes. He told me how to keep my feet on the spot and use my arms.”
