Metal fans prepare yourself for the biggest news you’ll hear all week – Black Sabbath guitarist Tony Iommi has confirmed that the band have rehearsed together and a reunion is an event which “could happen.”
The news comes just a week after Ozzy Osbourne described the possibility of the band reuniting as “very, very strong.” The possible comeback would involve the four original members of Sabbath playing together once again, ripping their way through the classics. We can hear the girlish squeals of metal-heads across the land as we write.
What’s more for Sabbath fans is that the reunion is shaping up so that if it happens, it could very well result in a headline slot at the prestigious Sonisphere or Download festivals in 2012 – but we’ll have to wait and see on that one too.
“We played some of the old stuff and to be together again was great,” Iommi explained. “We're all on good terms and we're at a stage where we can play together again. It would be good if we could and I suppose it's the closest it's been to be able to do that. It could happen!”
Ozzy last week told Billboard that the reunion was “in the very early stages, so we haven't recorded anything yet. If it works out, it'll work out. If it doesn't, I'll keep doing my thing.”
The band haven’t appeared together for five years, and even then that was simply a performance to mark their induction into the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame. But the long wait for Sabbath to return and reign again may be over for fans – we’ll just have to wait and see what happens in the near future. Keep up-to-date on Black Sabbath news with Stereoboard.
