Wayne Rooney To Buy Ex-Oasis Drummer's 'Definitely Maybe' Kit?

Ex-Oasis drummer Tony McCarroll will be auctioning off the drum-kit he used when recording ‘Definitely Maybe’, and there appears to be interested from an unlikely source – Manchester United and England striker Wayne Rooney.

McCarroll left the band in 1995 and has been involved with money issues with the band previously, taking the group to court in 1999 over lost profits – eventually settling for a payment of £600,000. Despite this, he has told The Sun that he has never ‘taken advantage’ of his Oasis connection for cash, claiming that he lives a normal life – but added that selling the kit would be ‘better than leaving it gather dust in storage’.

“I've never taken advantage of the Oasis connections over the years,” he told the British tabloid paper. “There have been a lot of offers and opportunities but I just never felt the need to. I've been living a really normal life, nothing much has been going on. I've been looking into DJing with Clint Boon.”

He continued: “I heard a rumour Wayne Rooney was interested in buying the drum kit and thought that might be better than leaving it in storage. It has been locked away for years with all my old discs, so it's getting dusted down now. It was a great recording set — Premier kit.

“Back in the day we would hire cymbals but the bass drum, toms and Black Beauty snare were mine. It's all up for auction. If this rolls out well I'll be giving part of the proceeds to a music-related charity too.”

The auction is set to take place next month.
