Damon Albarn Confirmed To Headline Honeyfest 2012

Kicking-off the 2012 festival season, Honeyfest has announced that Damon Albarn will perform songs and music from Dr Dee - created by Albarn and Rufus Norris - at Tumuli Field on April 14th. Albarn will be joined onstage by several musicians and singers from the original production including Madou Diabate.

Other acts confirmed for the festival include for a second year, the BBC Sound Poll listed Dry the River, as well as Raghu Dixit (featuring members of Bellowhead), Rae Morris, Nick Harper, Kidnap Alice and many more.

The music of Dr Dee features modern and Renaissance sounds, West African rhythm and the vocals of Damon Albarn. It charts the fall from grace of one of the most charismatic figures of the Elizabethan age, from influential courtier, polymath mathematician, astrologer and spy to his death in poverty, disgrace and isolation.

Honeyfest 2011 was held in support of The Barge Inn Community Project - a group of villagers who came together to take over the running of their local pub and secure its future at the heart of their community. It saw performances from the likes of Laura Marling, Damian Rice and the Magic Numbers.

The creation of the festival was documented in a primetime BBC1 series, which followed the journey of the Barge Inn Community Project as they secured a grant from the Big Lottery Fund’s Village SOS scheme and organised the festival in a bid to promote their project and secure wider support from the community.

For the second year running the BBC will continue to support the festival, the Tumuli Stage, in association with BBC Introducing, includes bands selected from all over the regions. More information on the line up for the BBC Introducing stage will be released in due course.

The festival prides itself on its community roots and as such does everything it can to support the local area from using local suppliers and staff to breaking new musical talent in the Wiltshire area. The second Honeyfest Battle Of The Bands takes place in the Bouverie Hall, Pewsey on Friday 3rd February. Acts will be competing for the two opening slots on the Main Stage. The judges are Stephen Budd (MAMA Group), Will Walder (BBC Introducing) and John Robb (Louder than War).

Further details, as well as tickets are available through the website www.honeyfestuk.com. Discounted tickets will be available for local residents at The Barge Inn, Honey Street, Wiltshire.
