'It Could Be Five Years Until Next Bon Iver Album', Says Frontman Justin Vernon

Folk icons Bon Iver have revealed that they may not release another record for five years, following the release of last summer’s eponymous second album.

Frontman Justin Vernon has told USA Today that he and the rest of the band have not yet started work on the follow-up to their last album, and that it could be quite a while till they do so – saying that he would ‘wait’ for songs to ‘reveal themselves’ instead of rushing and forcing his songwriting.

“I don't have any songs written yet,” he said in an interview with the paper. “I'm guessing three years. But it could be five. It could be only one more. It just depends when the songs come about. I sort of have to wait till they reveal themselves.”

One reason behind the decision could be the fact that Vernon is working on some other projects, including some of his other musical groups such as Volcano Choir, and his on-going collaboration with Alicia Keys. “I have a big idea to do an American songbook of the greatest women singers,” he told the paper. “There are so many: Casey (Dienel) from White Hinterland, Bonnie Raitt, Alicia.”
