Bon Iver head honcho Justin Vernon has announced an archival project titled 'VOLUMES'.
The two-time Grammy-winniner began working on 'VOLUMES' in 2020, going through dozens of hours of live performances, demos, unreleases songs, and other unheard recordings by himself and his bandmates Andrew Fitzpatrick, Jenn Wasner, Matthew McCaughan, Michael Lewis and Sean Carey, engineered by Xandy Whitesel.
Basing the concept on similar archive projects by Bob Dylan and Neil Young, the first part of the project kicks off with 'VOLUMES: One — Selections From Music Concerts 2019–2023: Bon Iver 6 Piece Band', due out on April 3 via Jagjaguwar and previewed by a 2022 performance of Heavenly Father in Milan as its lead single. Two-time Grammy-winner Vernon said:
"This particular set of 10 songs is like, ‘Here, if you’ve never heard Bon Iver, or you have and you didn’t like it, this might be for you. This is what we became. This is really us at our best. This is it."
Vernon released his first Bon Iver album in six years, 'SABLE, fABLE', in April 2025, following up 2019's 'i,i'. Last October, he featured on Haim's track Tie You Down from the sibling trio's latest album, 'I Quit'.
Earlier this month, he announced the return of the Bon Iver-curated Eaux Claires Festival after an eight year absence. Taking place at its new home, the Carson Park baseball stadium in Eau Claire, Wisconsin, on July 24 and 25, acts already confirmed to perform include Dijon, Kevin Morby, Lil Yachty, Daniel Caesar, Hotline TNT, Julianna Barwick, Mary Lattimore, and Aimee Mann, with more to be announced.
