Indie-pop newcomer Lana Del Rey has been shifted from the top spot of the UK Album Charts after Scottish singer Emeli Sande took pole position, while DJ Fresh managed to earn the first ever drum and bass #1 in the UK Singles chart with ‘Hot Right Now’.
Del Rey’s ‘Born to Die’ sits at #2 now that Emeli Sande’s ‘Our Version of Events’ has managed to top the charts in its first week, selling over 113,000 copies – making it the second fastest selling album of the year so far.. The record is Sande’s debut album and has seen the star already made the BRIT Awards Critic’s Choice gong.
Adele’s massive-selling ‘21’ LP still has a huge presence in the charts, sitting at #3 over a year after it came out on January 19th 2011, while Gotye’s ‘Making Mirrors’ and Ed Sheeran’s ‘+’ take #4 and #5 respectively.
Sande also has a stake in the singles chart, with her track ‘Next to Me’ sitting at #2 behind DJ Fresh’s 170bpm dancefloor filler ‘Hot Right Now’. Gotye is another artists sitting in both the top 5 of the Single chart as well as the Album chart, with his track ‘Somebody that I Used to Know’ perched at #3. David Guetta and Flo Rida sit at #4 and #5 respectively.
