The Cure Claiming Headlining Reading And Leeds Festival Is Them 'Coming Full Circle'

Rock legends The Cure have claimed that their headline slot at this year’s Reading and Leeds Festival is a result of them coming ‘full circle’ – with the idea of performing taking frontman Robert Smith ‘back to the point where we’re playing Reading Festival solely because I want it to be a good day.’

The band had been drafted in as mainstage headliners for the massive festivals even though they’re currently unsigned and have no new material to play out – which has caused Smith to reminisce about the 1979 Reading Festival, where they performed despite only releasing their debut album that year.

Speaking to NME, Smith said: “It's almost like we’ve gone full circle and we’re back to the point where we’re playing Reading Festival and I'm doing it solely because I want it to be a good day. I can't see our career arc any more. I've got absolutely no idea. We haven't signed to anyone since the last album came out and the contract was up. I'm not even signed as a writer. To be really honest, if we're gonna do something it has to be really good.”
