American singer-songwriter Bruce Springsteen has been accused of being a ‘phony patriotic’ by critics – causing him to hit out and respond.
Springsteen recently put out his latest album ‘Wrecking Ball’, which hit #1, but is unhappy at the amount of people who have been labelling his music – with some suggesting that his patriotism towards his home country is false. He also vowed not to change his political views regardless of how many people pressure him to change.
Springsteen told The Rolling Stone: “Lately, it seems as if the polarization of the country has gotten so extreme that people want to force you into being either a phony 'patriot' or an 'apologist'.”
He continued: “Nuanced political dialogue or creative expression seems like it's been hamstrung by the decay of political speech and it's infantilized our national discourse. I can't go for that and I won't write that way.”
