Nicki Minaj Claims It Is Parents' Responsibility To Protect Children From Explicit Lyrics

Hip-hop and pop star Nicki Minaj has told US television host Ellen DeGeneres that she thinks it is the responsibility of parents to stop their children listening to music with explicit or inappropriate content, following criticism of her often lewd lyrics.

Musicians who swear or sing/rap sexually explicit lyrics are always coming under fire from parent groups and censorship companies, but Minaj has been a particular focus as of late as she's seen to have a large underage fan-base and is considered to have a responsibility to her younger admirers. Now, she's told Ellen that she thinks it is the responsibility of parents and not the singers to protect younger fan's ears from explicit material – saying that she 'is not their parents'.

“You know what, I'm realising that I don't have to deal with it,” Minaj told Ellen. “I'm not their parents. I can only give advice and you guys know I always give my young little ladybugs my most precious advice, which is to stay a child. Don't rush to grow up. You know, the good thing about my album is that we always make it in a clean version.”
