McFly Bassist Dougie Poynter Opens Up About 2011 Suicide Attempt

McFly bassist Dougie Poynter has opened up about his attempt to commit suicide last year, following his split from The Saturdays star Frankie Sandford.
Poynter’s depression was well documented following the 2010 break-up and the musician’s condition was so bad he had to attend rehab to help himself recover. Now, speaking to Alan Carr on his show Chatty Man, he’s opened up about his February 2011 suicide attempt that saw him sitting in a car full of fumes for 20 minutes.
Carr, in reference to the band’s new autobiography ‘Unsaid Things... Our Story’, said to Poynter: “Listen, I have got to say, it got really dark, about you trying to kill yourself?”
Poynter then replied: “Yeah. It's always good to reflect on that sort of stuff. I'm in a really, really good place now. It is quite easy to forget. It's quite therapeutic to go back, quite scary and a bit of an eye opener into how dark it can get if you take your foot off the gas and stop looking after yourself.”
Poynter’s bandmate Fletcher then went on to reassure fans that each member of the group are now doing fine, saying: “We are all in good places now. Dougie has sorted himself out and I am married.”
