Taylor Swift Scores Her First UK Album Chart Number 1 With 'Red'

Six-time Grammy Award winner Taylor Swift is painting the globe red. ‘RED’, her fourth studio album released worldwide on October 22nd, has notched up striking sales numbers worldwide and widespread critical acclaim, and has secured Taylor her first Number 1 on the official UK album charts with sales of 61,779, (her biggest week 1 sales in the UK to date).

In the UK, ‘RED’ sold more in its first two days than previous albums ‘Fearless’ and ‘Speak Now’ did in their first week, with sales on the first day of release reaching 30,170, over 50% more than any other album in the chart. Meanwhile, Taylor currently has 10 singles in the Official UK Top 200 Singles chart, including 9 from ‘RED’.

Worldwide, ‘RED’ reached Number 1 at iTunes on the first day of its release in over 32 countries, and has now reached Number 1 in 42 countries around the globe, including the UK, US, Australia, Singapore, Brazil, Canada, Italy, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Vietnam, Denmark, Venezuela, Thailand, and Ireland.

With ‘RED’ Taylor has also set a new Billboard record – for the most rapid accumulation of 50 Hot 100 hits in history. Taylor is one of only five women in the 54-year history of the chart to reach this milestone (joining Aretha Franklin, Madonna, Connie Francis and Dionne Warwick). ‘RED’ topped the all-genre Top Albums chart at US iTunes within 36 minutes of release, with first day sales of 262,000 on iTunes alone.

Taylor Swift will be returning to the UK on Tuesday November 6th 2012 to switch on the Christmas Lights at Westfield London, Shepherd’s Bush. Taylor will appear on stage in The Atrium to countdown an expected 10,000 fans to the switch-on of the centre’s show-stopping Christmas lights. After an amazing display of pyrotechnics, snow and lasers Taylor Swift will perform live three of her hit singles, including ‘We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together’ from ‘RED’.

Taylor Swift has confirmed that ‘I Knew You Were Trouble.’ will be the follow-up single to smash hit ‘We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together.’ One of the many highlights from ‘RED’, this infectious and witty critical and fan favourite will be released in the UK by Big Machine Label Group & Mercury Records on 10th December.
