Festival Republic Boss Melvin Benn Talks About 2013 Reading And Leeds Line-Up

Green Day, Biffy Clyro and Eminem will headline this year’s Reading and Leeds Festivals.

ImageStereoboard were at the official Reading and Leeds launch last night, where Festival Republic owner (the team behind the twin-sited festival) Melvin Benn told us of his delight that “permanent teenagers” Green Day would appear at Leeds after appearing only at Reading last year.

“They’ve got this vibrancy that only teenagers have, they’re extraordinary. Let’s not beat about the bush, they’re a headline band for Leeds and Reading. We always want them to come and headline because they bring such great fun and excitement and they’ve got great songs.”

Mr Benn also hailed the coming of “international superstar” Eminem and Scottish rockers Biffy Clyro who “are absolutely ready” for their first headline appearance at the festival which is in it’s fifteenth year at Leeds.

This year’s festival will have a new BBC Radio 1Xtra stage which sees UK grime acts Devlin and Wiley headline, adding a new dimension to proceedings. US dub-step star, Skrillex, will headline the NME/BBC Radio 1 stage alongside Mercury Music Prize winners Alt-J and French outfit Phoenix.

A further development on previous years sees the BBC Radio 1 Dance Stage a three day program with Sub-Focus the pick of the headliners.

Mr Benn said that he had made a “concerted effort” in the expansion of dance and alternative music events but that it didn’t signify a change in direction for the festival as a whole.
