The demise of Manchester icons Oasis is one of the most talked about events in British rock’s recent history, and apparently it was all down to them comparing themselves to The Beatles - or at least former Beatles star Paul McCartney thinks so!
The 70 year-old was speaking to Q Magazine about his influence on the British rock scene, particularly the Britpop era - which saw the likes of Suede, Blur, and of course Oasis becoming huge names - when he confessed that he reckons Oasis claiming they were the next Beatles was ‘probably the kiss of death!’
“I'm actually kind of honoured - they could be copying anyone - even when things happen like Oasis saying, We are then next Beatles. But I also think, Listen lads you can't say that. And don't say that, because it's probably the kiss of death!”
He continued:
“In Oasis's cases, I think it was coming from them. In others it's the record label or management and that's never a good idea: The poor band! Now go and do better than The Beatles did. Not an easy task.”
