Brooklyn Playground To Be Named After Late Beastie Boy Adam Yauch

Thursday, 02 May 2013 Written by Elliott Batte

A playground in New York is set to be named after Beastie Boys legend Adam Yauch - aka MCA - almost a year on from his death.

The rapper, who made up one third of iconic hip-hop group Beastie Boys alongside Ad-Rock and Mike D, tragically passed away age 47 on May 4th last year, after a three year battle with cancer.

With the group easily one of the most universally-loved and respected in the world, there were millions upon millions of people upset and touched by his death, especially in his native New York - so much so that a local playground is set to be named after him.

The move - which will be unveiled in a ceremony tomorrow (Friday May 3rd) - will see the Palmetto Playground in Brooklyn renamed as the Adam Yauch Playground. Yauch was known to visit the playground as a child, and lived in the area - so it’s only fitting that it’s named after him.
