Beastie Boys' Mike D Announces Debut Solo Album 'Thank You' With New Single True Colors

Beastie Boys co-founder Mike D has laid out plans for his debut solo album.
The rapper will release 'Thank You' on August 28 via Capitol Records. It was created at his home studio alongside a cast of collaborators, including his sons Skyler and Davis Diamond, who peform in his backing band 5D, plus Carter Lang, Jared Solomon, Ging, Jason Lader, Eddie Ruscha and Tyran Donaldson, with mixing by Derek ‘MixedByAli’ Ali and mastering by Nicolas de Porcel. Mike D said:
“It’s been so much fun making this music with people I love and I have grown to really appreciate in our collaboration. And I just hope it’s fun for others and not overly serious, because let’s be real, I’m releasing this music into a very strange and dark and power-fixated world that really devalues art and feelings and compassion and empathy and equality."
Alongside the announcement, Mike D (real name Michael Diamond) has shared the new single True Colors, a percussive track with hazy electronics and hypnotic vocal samples. It'll appear on the album alongside his earlier tracks What We Got and Switch Up.
Mike D recently played two sold-out London shows as part of a European tour that continues with a performance in Berlin tomorrow (June 10), before an appearance at Beyond The Pale festival in Wicklow, Ireland later this week. He'll also play Portola Festival in San Fransisco in September.
