If you were reading about anything to do with live music in the UK on the weekend, it’s likely you ran into some news about One Direction’s 2014 stadium tour - we published a number of stories on it, including one on how the incredible demand for tickets crashed websites and servers across the country, and how over 1,000,000 fans were expected to compete for just 250,000 seats.
Following the mad rush, ticket-sellers and officials have been taking their spare time to take a look back at just how many people were online and fighting for their chance to see the world-beating boyband live next year - and it appears the numbers were as stupidly high as predicted!
One of the UK’s biggest sellers Ticketmaster saw an intense amount of traffic hitting their site, and their chairman Chris Edmonds has commented on Saturday’s events - revealing that at one point, an unbelievable 200,000 people were in it’s virtual queue! He said:
“We would like to congratulate the band on fantastic sales this morning for their first stadium tour ‘Where We Are’. We had a lot of happy 1D fans on our site snapping up tickets to extra dates as soon as we added them. At one point, we had over 200,000 people in the virtual queue we use for really big events to ensure fair access for fans. To put that into perspective, if that had been a physical queue they would have stretched from Wembley Stadium all the way round the M25. The countdown to the shows begins now!”
