Beady Eye Perform At Glastonbury As Predicted

Friday, 28 June 2013 Written by Elliott Batte

Liam Gallagher and his Beady Eye bandmates kicked off Glastonbury this morning, with an unscheduled performance at 11am.

We reported yesterday that Beady Eye were all but confirmed for a ‘secret’ gig, after the band posted some cryptic messages warning fans to ‘BE there or BE square’ at 11am this morning.

Liam Gallagher and Co., who recently released and toured their latest album ‘BE’, had been ‘confirmed’ for the festival by tabloid paper The Sun, but there wasn’t much substance to the story - until the band were spotted arriving at the festival. Then, this morning, they took to stage to confirm the rumours - and kick off Glasto in style.

MTV reports that Beady Eye opened their set with ‘Flick of the Finger’, a track taken from their new album, and also ripped through a couple of Oasis tracks too - such as (What's The Story) Morning Glory and Rock 'n' Roll Star. You can check out a video of them performing the latter embedded below.

Although it wasn’t the best kept secret in the world, the band’s set was kind of surprising - Liam did once declare that he’d never return to Glastonbury, describing the sound as ‘shit’ - he said:

“The sound is shit and really quiet. You can hear the crowd talking while you’re playing. They don’t put any money into the PA and it’s just full of fucking idiots. Now it’s like Bond Street with mud, with loads of celebrities walking around in their boots and umbrellas. I’m not having it.”

And yesterday, Vice’s Noisey unveiled a documentary about the band, in which Gallagher claimed that he didn't want to be ‘singing someone else’s songs’ - only to go on to play Oasis tracks this morning.

Either way, they opened Glastonbury successfully, with Gallagher telling the crowd "It's never too early for a bit of rock 'n' roll aggro, is it?". Did you catch the performance? Leave us a comment in the box below.
