Over 70 New Acts Announced For Swn Festival 2013

Monday, 05 August 2013 Written by Jon Stickler

Over 70 new acts have been announced for this year's Swn Festival. The four-day Cardiff event features the best new music from Wales and beyond.

Swn takes place in and around multiple live music venues in Cardiff, from October 17-20. The first wave of acts, 50 bands, was revealed back in June. This new batch of bands includes the likes of Mr Scruff, Frankie & The Heartstrings, Drenge and Ghostpoet, and the line-up now sees a total of over 130 acts. Newly announced acts join the already confirmed Everything Everything, Temple and Deerhunter.

Swn 2013 sees the involvement of a number of new venues, including Fuel Rock Club, The Angel Hotel, Sherman Cymru, Jacobs Market and St John’s Church in Canton. They join the already established venues such as Clwb Ifor Bach, The Moon Club, and Gwdihw.

The festival will also see an outdoor stage built for performances on Saturday and Sunday, following the success of last year’s open air gigs at The Hayes.

Swn Event Manager, Gem White, told WalesOnline: “We are really excited for Swn Festival 2013. Last year’s festival was attended by more than 5,000 people over the four days and hosted more than 200 live acts and DJs. So we’ve set the bar pretty high for ourselves this year.

“We’ll be introducing some new city-centre venues this October, including The Angel Hotel, Fuel and Sherman Cymru so we can programme plenty of acts within skipping distance of each other in the city.

“We’ll also be working with some new stage co-hosts and partners to bring the best live acts from Wales and beyond into Cardiff for an amazingly hectic four days of music, art, seminars and workshops.”

Previous acts that have performed at Swn include the Joy Formidable, the Cribs, John Grant, Aluna George, Django Django and Charlotte Church.
