Black Sabbath Set To Headline Reading And Leeds 2014?

Tuesday, 01 October 2013 Written by Elliott Batte

Melvin Benn - the boss of Reading and Leeds Festival - has revealed that he’s already signed up two out of three of the headline acts for next year, and one possibility could be heavy metal legends Black Sabbath.

The festival chief is excited for the 2014 edition and has a big task ahead in beating his last effort, which saw Green Day, Eminem, and Biffy Clyro headline.

But, he’s revealed in a new interview with NME that he’s already booked two out of three of 2014’s headliners, and has even given some sneaky clues as to who you’ll be rocking out to next year.

He told the site:

“We have headliners in mind and booked actually. Two of the three are done, the last one we are giving due consideration to. Both of the headliners have played before. They are bands actually. They are American and English.

They may even be bands with members from both sides of the pond in them. Two of the three are booked and I'm very happy with them. It's great to be in that position in September. We'll hope to have the third name booked by the end of October but we haven't made an offer yet.”

Benn hasn’t said much but fans hearts are already starting to race in anticipation of Reading and Leeds 2014, and of course the headliner rumour mill is rushing into full swing once again.

With Benn stating there was a band with members from both sides of the pond, we took a look at who could potentially be on the bill - and with American drummer Tommy Clufetos currently replacing Bill Ward in Black Sabbath, they're definitely worth a punt. The iconic band have been touring the UK recently to critical acclaim, and would be an epic headline act for next year's event.

Black Sabbath returned to the scene to headline the 2012 Download Festival, and with the bands last headline appearance at Reading Festival way back in 1983, a return to Little John's Farm is well overdue.

Meanwhile, Benn praised the addition of new stages for the extra success he saw at Reading and Leeds 2013. He explained:

"The core change was the addition of the two new stages, the 1Xtra Stage and the Radio 1 Dance Stage. The 1xtra Stage was the thing I was most pleased about. The reaction to the idea of 1Xtra being involved was negative from a small amount of people and I think we countered that negativity with the programming and the atmospheres in there."
