Billy Corgan Confirms New Rick Rubin Produced Solo Album

Monday, 12 September 2016 Written by Laura Johnson

Billy Corgan has confirmed he has been working on a new solo album.

The Smashing Pumpkins' frontman and founder took to Facebook live to update his fans on his new career with Impact Wrestling as well as his solo album, which he reveals was made with his "longtime friend" Rick Rubin, who he considers "one of the greatest producers in the history of rock and roll."

However, despite confirming the record was nearly complete he said there is no release date:

"We finished all the basic recordings. I think we recorded about 12 or 13 songs. I'm set to go back out to the west coast at some point to finish up a few things, but for the most part the record is done. I don't have a due date on when that's going to be coming out."

Corgan continued to give a brief update on the Smashing Pumpkins. Though he said he wasn't sure if the band were reuniting, he did say there were definite plans to tour next year, adding "Who will be on stage? We shall see". He also stated that they would be releasing archived live recordings of the Smashing Pumpkins from the 1988-1992 era. They will be available on vinyl and digitally, and will include previously unreleased tracks.

As if all the above wasn't enough, the frontman is also writing an album for Sierra Swan, it will be the follow up to her 2014 album, 'Good Soldier', which he produced.
