The track is taken from her new album, 'Mental Illness', which is due to arrive on March 31 and follow up 2012's 'Charmer'.
Discussing the video with NPR, who premiered it, director Daniel Ralson said:
"I believe 'Patient Zero' is a song about Hollywood disappointment. I wanted to make a video about the same thing, on a smaller scale. James Urbaniak plays the dresser for a fictitious (but very serious) play called The Hermit. Bradley Whitford plays the actor at the heart of the performance. The two men become friends; the dresser is given a gift; their friendship ends. It's about being able to let go of the things we want but can't have."
The American singer-songwriter will follow up the record's release with a North American tour, which kicks off on April 20 in Washington. Tickets are on sale now.
