Jack White Documentary 'American Epic' To Air In May

Jack White's new documentary will air in May.
American Epic is a three-part documentary film, TV series and recording project on which the singer-songwriter worked with T Bone Burnett and Robert Redford to explore the early days of recorded sound and music. It features performances using 1920s equipment from the likes of Elton John, Beck, Nas and Alabama Shakes.
“In American Epic we can examine how important the fact is that when phonograph records were invented, for the first time ever, women, minorities, poor rural men and even children were given the opportunity to say whatever they wanted in song, for the whole world to hear, shockingly without much censorship. What they were allowed to say on phonograph recordings, they were not allowed to speak in public or in person. That is an astounding thought.”
The series will air on the BBC in the UK and PRS in the USA from May 16, with the film being shown on June 6. The soundtrack and selections of archive recordings will be available from May 12, with a companion book arriving on May 2.
