The Afghan Whigs Guitarist Dave Rosser Dies Aged 50

Thursday, 29 June 2017 Written by Laura Johnson

Dave Rosser, guitarist for the Afghan Whigs, has died aged 50.

His manager confirmed to NPR that he passed away yesterday in New Orleans following complications from cancer. In a statement on their Facebook page, the band said:

"It is with great sadness that we say goodbye to our friend, brother and inspiration.

Dave Rosser passed away peacefully last evening surrounded by love. Thank you to all who kept him in their hearts. He is forever in ours."

Following Rosser's diagnosis with inoperable colon cancer last year, the Afghan Whigs set up a GoFundMe page for the guitarist and arranged three benefit shows, which featured performances by Josh Homme, Eagles Of Death Metal, Duff McKagan, Mark Lanegan, Moby, Carina Round, the Gutter Twins and Ani Difranco.

During his career Rosser also toured extensively with Twilight Singers, Marc Broussard and Lanegan, and collaborated on projects with Difranco and Joseph Arthur, among many others.
