Aaron Dessner and Justin Vernon Announce Big Red Machine LP

Thursday, 12 July 2018 Written by Huw Baines

Aaron Dessner and Justin Vernon have announced a full length under their Big Red Machine banner.

The duo, of the National and Bon Iver respectively, have inked in an August 10 arrival for the 10 song, self-titled record through the People platform, along with other streaming services and a physical release with Jagjaguwar.

The album was co-produced with Brad Cook and recorded and mixed by Jonathan Low, stemming from Dessner and Vernon’s improvised sets at Eaux Claires, Haven and Sounds from a Safe Harbour festivals last year. As with their recent EP, the collection also features multiple collaborators.

“I don’t think the record would exist without the community that came together to make it,” Dessner said in a statement. “We took the music to a certain point, and then we reached out and sent it far and wide, inviting friends to contribute any and all ideas. We’ve viewed the record and the process from a community standpoint.

“We’re incredibly excited about it, as excited as we would be for any album we might make in another situation that’s more conventional. But this feels like something new—the process felt different and the outcome felt different.”
