Soft Cell Share Northern Lights, Their First New Song In 15 Years

Tuesday, 21 August 2018 Written by Laura Johnson

Soft Cell have shared their first new track in 15 years.

Northern Lights is one of two new songs that will feature on their 'The Singles - Keychains & Snowstorms' compilation, which is due out on September 7. The other is called Guilty (‘Cos I Say You Are’).

Tthe track pays homage to their Northern Soul heritage, while retaining the trademark Soft Cell sound of lively synths mixed with '80s pop. Marc Almond said:

“[Northern Lights] is a celebration of our roots in Northern Soul and was a great chance for me and Dave to work again.”

Dave Ball also commented:

"2018 is a very important anniversary for Soft Cell so it seems fitting that we celebrate 40 years working together on and off with a massive gig at the O2. The track 'Northern Lights' is a homage to both Marc and I growing up in Northern towns (Southport & Blackpool respectively). It's also a nod to the Northern Soul music that played such a great part in our formative years and was a huge influence on our music."

The synthpop duo will celebrate their 40th anniversary by playing their final live show at the O2 Arena in London on September 30.

Soft Cell Upcoming Tour Dates are as follows

Sun September 30 2018 - LONDON O2 Arena
