Ghetts and Kojey Radical have released a video for their collaboration Black Rose.
Ghetts, one of grime’s flagship MCs, takes the reins for the verses as he answers a question posed by his daughter: why aren’t there any dolls in the shop that look like she does? His anthemic bars form a social commentary that explores intersectional feminism in a society that marginalises rather than encourages love and self-worth. It’s personal, complex, and powerful.
Meanwhile, Kojey Radical takes a softer, more restrained approach while he sings “I can’t cry those tears for you again” over a subtle guitar line. The video for Black Rose is shot completely in monotone, and packs a punch: “Baby, you keep doing you. Don’t let the world ruin you.”
Black Rose is the first single to be taken from Ghetts' new album ‘Ghetto Gospel: The New Testament’, due for release on September 14 through GIIG / Caroline International.
