Joan Jett And The Blackhearts Release New Single Fresh Start

Tuesday, 11 September 2018 Written by Laura Johnson

Joan Jett and the Blackhearts have released a new single.

Fresh Start is the rock legend's first new material since the release of 'Unvarnished' in 2013. The song was written for the soundtrack to Bad Reputation, a documentary about Jett that is due out on September 28.

The track is Jett through and through: fast-paced punk rock with big chords and even bigger riffs. Lyrically it focuses on the importance in grabbing opportunities when you get the chance. "So you say you're not satisfied? And you wanna bigger piece of pie?" she sings. "Take my advice don't hesistate, before you know it it'll be too late."

Check out Fresh Start below, following its premiere with Entertainment Weekly.

td#right {display:none !important;} Illustration: Sam Davies   The train is late. The trains are always late. Table the lost minutes. I absent-mindedly scroll Twitter in a glass shelter as the December cold gets its claws in. Before skipping over a review of the latest Jungle Book remake I’m stopped mid-feed by an autoplay video. Julia Roberts dances in a subway carriage for the New York Times. She grins, the plastic chairs smile back with yellow and orange teeth. The sound is off—my headphones are still playing Hop Along’s Not Abel. The weird thing is, that song won’t yield the floor. Instead it steps in to lead.
