Dream Theater Share Epic New Track Untethered Angel From Upcoming LP 'Distance Over Time'

Friday, 07 December 2018 Written by Jon Stickler

Dream Theater have shared the lead single from their upcoming LP, 'Distance Over Time'.

The expanisve, fiendishly heavy Untethered Angel also serves as the opening track on the follow up to 2016's 'The Astonishing', which is set to arrive on February 22 via InsideOutMusic/Sony Music. The album was recorded this summer at the Yonderbarn studio in New York and was produced by the band's guitarist, John Petrucci, who said:

"As a producer, my goal was to try and create the best-sounding Dream Theater record we’ve ever made so that listeners can just be enveloped in the music. I really wanted this recording to truly reflect the spirit, joy, and passion that went into making the album and for people to walk away feeling some of the organic nature, personality, and raw energy that the band captured while together in the studio. For me, I think it accomplishes that and I hope that other people will feel the same way."

Dream Theater will support the record with a North American tour beginning in March and concluding on May 1 in Austin, Texas with a show in Mexico set to follow on May 4. They've also lined up European dates, including an appearance at France's Hellfest in June.

When it comes to any artistic form, masterpiece is a word that should be reserved for works of true genius; those unique creative expressions that are pioneering, inspiring and timeless. Dream Theater’s hallowed sophomore record ‘Images and Words’ more than fits the bill, having birthed a legion of imitators by fusing metal riffage, melodic beauty and progressive experimentation together into a ball of virtuosity and emotion that’s as powerful today as it was in 1992.
Toy - Happy in the Hollow (Album Review)
Thu 31 Jan 2019
Toy’s third album, 2016’s ‘Clear Shot’, showed that the Brighton quintet had more up their sleeves than homages to their influences, the most obvious of which was Krautrock. Those hypnotic, motorik beats still remained, but there was a more experimental element, one that kept a foot in their past while thrusting another in the direction of dreamy psychedelics that would have been admired by Syd Barrett.

White Lies - Five (Album Review)
Thu 07 Feb 2019
Photo: Steve Gullick After 2016’s brilliant guilty pleasure ‘Friends’, London’s most obvious ‘80s worshippers White Lies had a task on their hands to maintain such high standards. Their fifth album continues the recent trend of adopting the decade’s glitzier keyboards, with fewer danceable moments than before. It also also does little to alleviate accusations of unoriginality, this time even down to the album’s title: 'Five'.
