Laura Stevenson Announces Spring Release For New Album 'The Big Freeze'

Thursday, 07 February 2019 Written by Jon Stickler

Laura Stevenson will release her fifth album this spring.

'The Big Freeze' was recorded during the winter at the New York-based singer-songwriter's childhood home. It finds her reunited with producer Joe Rogers, who engineered its predecessor, 2015's 'Cocksure'. Stevenson said in a statement:

"All of his recording gear was in a storage space in Jersey City, so last winter we loaded it into my childhood home on Long Island and set up a make-shift studio. There we could isolate ourselves and work on our own time, getting the best and most honest version of each song; every track began with just me singing and playing the guitar. All of the other instrumentation was built on top of that; strings, horns, organs, pianos, percussion, etc., but every note played was meant to serve what the song was saying. It was a really beautiful experience for me to make this record; it focuses on trying to heal old wounds, trying to stay hopeful, and trying not to let myself disappear."

Head below to stream the record's lead single, Living Room, NY, which finds Stevenson missing someone. "I keep you in my mind all of the time," she sings.

The album is set to follow via Don Giovanni Records on March 29, with a supporting North American tour lined up in May and early June. Tickets go on general sale at 10am local time on February 8.
