Idles have released a new track.

Without fanfare, Mercedes Marxist has appeared online. Frontman Joe Talbot temporarily smoothes out some of the rough edges from his vocals in order to reflect the downcast mood of the song. Though the post-punk intensity is still present, they've changed tack to address a sombre subject.

Introducing the track on social media, they said:

"Mercedes Marxist was a strange beast for us, after Rottweiler, it was the first song we wrote for Joy as an Act of Resistance. I was pissed off at what I was and where I was: I was sofa surfing on the weekends and spending the weeks looking after my mum. My life balance was way off and this song reflects just how useless I felt. It was me at my worst and without any buoyancy it became catharsis. It was the last splurge from Brutalism so we admitted it. I like it now."

Mercedes Marxist will be released on 7" vinyl on August 2, backed with another new song, I Dream Guillotine. The former was written during the sessions for their sophomore album, 'Joy As An Act Of Resistance', which came out in 2018. The band have shared via social media that they're already working on its follow up.

Idles are currently on tour in the US have just announced they will return in October for a handful of dates, playing their biggest venues to date. Tickets go on sale at 10am local time on May 10. Head below for further details and tickets.
